Ryan Stuempges, Wisconsin, is the high school choral director for the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau School District in Western Wisconsin. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse and is currently in his 12th year teaching. Ryan stumbled upon a cappella during college while watching a PBS special featuring “Rockapella”. It wasn’t long before he, and 4 other buddies, were arranging and singing those same tunes at a few events on campus. His real interests came as a high school director, where he was looking for a way to get kids excited about his program. Stuempges introduced a cappella and he found his forte.
Stuempges currently directs Men’s Choir, Women’s Choir, Concert Choir, Musical Theatre Productions, and 2 A Cappella groups at his school. His groups have competed in the ICHSA’s, performed as a featured group at the National A Cappella Convention in Memphis, performed in the 2012 World Choir Games in Cincinnati, sang at Carnegie Hall with Deke Sharon, opened for the nationally touring group “Vocalosity” in Madison, and perform regularly throughout Western Wisconsin. Stuempges also teaches a cappella masterclasses, educator sessions, and interests sessions throughout the a cappella community. He also helps with judging various competitions and video submissions for the A Cappella Education Association.
