Ms. Wisdom created a cappella ensembles at CMHS in 2002. The ensembles, Crimson (women), Slate (men) and Affinity (mixed) have enjoyed success over the years. Crimson won the NCHSA National Championship in 2005, and the following year both Crimson and Slate were in the inaugural 2006 ICHSA National Final. Crimson returned to the ICHSA National Final seven times, earning runner- up honors in 2007, and 3rd in 2014. The men of Slate were a part of the 2016 AEA National Championship, and last year the groups were combined for the first time in competition- Crimson & Slate were thrilled to be a part of the 2017 AEA National Championship. 2017 Crimson & Slate were named state champions at the CHSAA Jazz & A Cappella Festival, and took 1st place at Acappellooza in Denver this summer. The groups have won state many times, and have also taken 1st at the Mile High Vocal Jam. Crimson & Slate attend as many festivals as they can to learn and hear other groups perform. They were thrilled to be a part of the 2015 and 2016 Kettering A Cappella Festival opening showcase concerts. Crimson appeared on the 2005 and 2008 BOHSA albums. The CMHS a cappella ensembles have opened for several professional a cappella groups, and have loved performing shows around the country.
A Cappella is just a part of the program at CMHS. The choirs at CM have traveled to state, national and regional festivals earning consistent superior ratings and awards. Ms. Wisdom’s choirs have opened for several professional groups and have enjoyed performing special concerts in places like Universal Studios Orlando, Hard Rock on Beale Street, the flight deck of the USS Midway in San Diego, and Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. Various CMHS ensembles have presented concerts at the Colorado Music Educators Conference, and at special events around the city of Colorado Springs.
