Bill Adams, North Carolina, has been a working professional musician for 30 years. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Voice from the University of Texas at Austin, a Master of Music degree in Opera from California State University, Northridge, and a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education (Choral and Instrumental) from California State University, San Bernardino.
Bill is a founding member of Avante, a professional jazz a cappella ensemble in North Carolina. He is also the founder and director of the professional men’s chamber ensemble riverdeep. He currently serves as the Artistic and Musical Director of the Heart of Carolina Barbershop Chorus in Durham, North Carolina. He is in demand as a clinician and coach for everything from state-level honor choirs, a cappella camps and masterclasses, to coaching local church choirs, community ensembles and barbershop quartets. A certified Youth in Harmony clinician with the Barbershop Harmony Society, he has served as a clinician at 23 Harmony Explosion camps, and many one-day harmony clinics throughout the US. He is also a featured instructor at festivals and clinics including SoJam.
Before focusing on a private teaching studio full-time, Bill taught Voice and Musical Theater and conducted musical theater productions at Elon University and served as the Department Chair for Music at Oklahoma Panhandle State University. At OPSU, Bill directed the Chamber Singers, Concert Choir, Concert Band, Marching Band, and Jazz Band. He designed the music degrees at OPSU which include the most comprehensive music education curriculum in the state. His duties at OPSU also included the certification and re-certification of educators in Oklahoma.
In his private studio, Bill gives lessons in voice, piano, woodwinds, guitar and bass, theory at all levels, and conducting. He also works in tandem with the Duke Voice Center in the rehabilitation of vocal injuries and disorders. He is a multi-instrumentalist and has worked in nearly every conceivable instrumental genre from rock to jazz to symphonic music. He is also a composer and arranger whose works have been recorded and have received international performances.
