One of the a cappella world’s biggest events just got bigger. The #NACC18 Invitational has opened up to high school groups this year, and ten stellar groups from across the country are competing for recognition and a $5,000 cash prize. Today we highlight the Highlands Belles, an all-female group from Northern Highlands Regional High School. Here’s what they had to say.

How would you define your group’s identity?

The Highlands Belles is a groups of 14 close-knit girls who have truly become a family. Every girl brings something different to the table and we work together to put forth some great a cappella music. Not only do we want to spread the message that a cappella and music are amazing, but we also work to spread a specific message through our songs and this year we are focusing on Love. How to first love yourself and then not be afraid to love others.

What are you looking forward to at the Convention?

We are really looking forward to the workshops that will be going on at the convention. We are hoping to participate in a Master Class as we are always looking for opportunities to learn and grow. Furthermore, this is the first time the Belles are competing in the competition as well as we are most excited for this opportunity to compete against other amazing groups.

What’s happening for your group in the next 12 months?

In the past three [weeks] the Belles have been competing in the ICHSA. The Belles placed second in their quarterfinal moving them on to semifinals and then placed second again in the semifinals, which was such a great accomplishment. Furthermore, in May there will be an A Cappella Festival as Northern Highlands Regional High School (where the Belles are from) where there will be numerous workshops and master classes including headliner Deke Sharon. The girls are so excited for this annual event to not only learn and participate in workshops, but also to perform in the show that culminates the night!
