One of the a cappella world’s biggest events just got bigger. This year’s #NACC18 Invitational features 10 collegiate and 10 high school groups from across the United States, competing for recognition and a $5,000 cash prize. Today we highlight License to Trill, a co-ed group from Texas Christian University. Established in 2015, they have developed their sound to the point of winning the SING! Texas competition in 2017 and competed in the ICCA 2017 Southwest Semifinals. Here’s what they had to say.
How would you define your group’s identity?
License to Trill pulls inspiration from three words: Alternative, Soulful, and Industrial. Within everything we do, whether that be our arrangements, performances, or our branding choices, these three words are the driving force for our group’s identity.
What are you looking forward to at the Convention?
This year, License to Trill has put our emphasis on bettering ourselves as both performers and musicians by learning vocal jazz arrangements, improvising, and generally doing things that our group has never done before. At NACC, we hope to continue this musical growth through not only the competition but the numerous workshops and classes that we get to be a part of.
What’s happening for your group in the next 12 months?
License to Trill has some fantastic things coming up soon! After our successful Kickstarter, we are now in the works to put out our first album and a professionally produced video from our winning Sing! Texas set. Our over-arching goal is to push a cappella to new heights while building a unique sound.
Come watch License to Trill perform along with 19 other incredible groups at #NACC18 in Memphis, TN, April 27-28, 2018. You can buy tickets at the previous link or sign up to watch online with FloVoice!
