One of the a cappella world’s biggest events just got bigger. This year’s #NACC18 Invitational features 10 collegiate and 10 high school groups from across the United States, competing for recognition and a $5,000 cash prize. Today we highlight Mixed Mode, a co-ed a cappella group at the University of Central Florida. With their debut EP Mixology released in 2017 and an ICCA quarterfinal championship under their belt, Mixed Mode is ready to compete with collegiate a cappella’s finest at NACC. Here’s what we asked them.
How would you define your group’s identity?
Mixed Mode was created with the intent to craft innovative soundscapes with the power of the voice and mouth. Our unbreakable bond of friendship and family combined with our artistry allows us to create music that evokes a visceral reaction within the viewer.
What are you looking forward to at the Convention?
Mixed Mode is looking forward to meeting so many talented groups from all over the country, as well as the Pro Showcase. For Mixed Mode, NACC is the icing on an already successful year, and we’re looking to leave NACC refreshed and energized in preparation for next year’s adventures.
What’s happening for your group in the next 12 months?
Mixed Mode has big plans for the next year. We plan to record again and drop a music video or two! Competition has become a large part of our identity and we hope to continue to share our music in new ways.
